You may have heard about the salary bonus.
Thanks to a series of factors, we, Brazilian citizens, have a series of labor rights. And one of them has been gaining a lot of attention in the media in recent times.
We are talking about the salary bonus.
The salary bonus is a benefit that is granted to most workers who have a signed employment contract.
Despite being very broad, the benefit still tends to generate a lot of doubt among Brazilians.
And these questions range from who has access to the benefit to the payment schedule that the salary bonus follows.
It was with this in mind that we decided to create this special content.
In it, we will explain all the information you need to know about this benefit.
Throughout the text, you will learn what the salary bonus is.
This way, it will be much easier to know whether you are one of the beneficiaries or not.
And, if so, when is the date the benefit is released to you.
What is Salary Bonus?
The salary bonus is nothing more than a benefit that is made available to all workers who work under the CLT regime – the famous signed employment contract.
In general, the benefit – which is paid annually – works as a kind of 14th salary.
To define the value of the benefit that each worker receives, a calculation is made.
It takes into account the months worked during the base year.
For the 2022 benefit, the base year is 2020.
If the worker has worked during the 12 months of the year with a signed employment contract, the benefit is equivalent to a minimum wage.
That is, R$ 1,212.00.
As the number of months worked decreases, the amount of benefit paid also ends up being reduced.
Like many other labor rights, the salary bonus and its payment are managed by Caixa Econômica Federal.
Who is entitled to the benefit?
Now that you know that the salary bonus is an exclusive benefit for workers who have an employment relationship under the CLT regime, it's time to find out more about who is entitled to the benefit.
In order to enjoy this benefit, the worker must:
– have been registered with PIS for at least 5 years;
– having received less than 2 minimum wages (R$2.424) per month in the base year;
– worked for at least 30 days in the base year;
– have updated data in the Annual Social Information Report (RAIS)/eSocial.
How do I know if I am entitled to the Salary Bonus?
Although the information regarding receipt of the benefit is relatively simple, workers may still have doubts about their right to the benefit.
With this in mind, some simple tools have been made available.
They help workers to resolve any doubts they may have regarding the payment of benefits. They are:
Public Ministry of Labor Channels
One of the ways to check the availability of your salary bonus is through the online channels of the Public Ministry of Labor.
But ATTENTION: it is important that you always make sure that you are accessing the organization's official channels.
This way, you will avoid falling for potential scams or fake websites.
Digital Work Card Application
Another very quick and easy way to perform this query is through the app.
Since almost everyone has access to a cell phone, this is perhaps one of the most viable ways to check the availability of the benefit.
Furthermore, with the application you can access several other important information about your professional life.
The Digital Work Card application is available for both Android and iOS.
Official website of the Federal Government
Through the official website of the Federal Government – www.gov.br – it is also possible to carry out this type of consultation.
The government platform is also an excellent option for those looking to learn more about various other benefits and information.
By phone 158
And for those who aren't so good with technology and want a slightly more traditional option, there's also the official phone.
By calling 158 you can obtain information regarding the benefit, such as availability and release.
Why was the 2021 Salary Bonus postponed?
Due to the entire situation created by the COVID-19 pandemic, the salary bonus ended up being postponed during 2021.
This has led to some changes and, this year, the benefit will be paid for the year 2020.
For next year (2023), the benefit will continue to follow the same scheme as this year, and will use 2021 as the base year for the payment of the salary bonus.
What is the value of the Salary Bonus?
As already mentioned in the text, the amount of time worked is equivalent to the value of the salary bonus that will be made available.
Payment varies between R$ 101.00 and R$ 1,212.00. Below, we list how the benefit amount works per month worked:
