Humans have been looking for ways to get high for some time now. Contrary to what many people think, the search for substances that can alter human perception has been going on for thousands of years.

This activity – which was achieved exclusively through substances found in nature – has changed over time and with the advancement of technology.

And today, there is no shortage of options available in society for those who want to achieve this goal.

From alcoholic beverages and medicines – which can be considered legal drugs – to even heavier substances, humans have several options for getting high.

But know that this is far from being exclusive to our species. Quite the opposite!

There are several species of animals around the world that have gotten – and still get – high in a variety of ways!

And it is taking this information into consideration – which many people are unaware of – that we had the idea of creating today’s content!

Throughout the text, you will meet some stoned animals! They abused the substances found in different types of situations and ended up completely high and without knowing what was happening!

So get ready because all these stories promise to give you a good laugh!

The 'crazy' bear was the story that gave us the idea to talk about stoned animals

It's impossible to create a list of stoned animals without mentioning her, who made the pages of newspapers in recent weeks and even became a meme on the internet.

We're talking about the 'crazy' bear.

For those who don't know exactly what we're talking about, we'll give you a brief summary!

The case occurred in Duzce province in northwestern Turkey.

On that occasion, a brown bear cub found a 'source' of available honey and couldn't resist its extinct. The little bear gorged herself on all the honey and ate it until there was no more.

So far so good. But the problem is that this is not the same as the honey we are used to putting on cereal and oatmeal here. Quite the opposite.

This honey is known as “crazy honey” in the region. And this title is precisely because of the numerous hallucinogenic properties that this product has.

“Crazy honey” – or “deli bal” in Turkish – is produced and sold legally by several beekeepers living in the Kaçkar Mountains, close to the famous Black Sea.

In this region, a species of plant flourishes that produces a neurotoxin called grayanotoxin, resulting in hallucinogenic honey.

And it was after eating a lot of this hallucinogenic honey that the baby bear experienced a tremendous “bad trip” and needed to be rescued by some men from the region.

In the image, we can see the state in which the bear was found in the back of the truck responsible for its rescue.

Despite the bear's condition, the hallucinogenic effect is temporary. And admit it: it's impossible to look at this photo and not laugh at such an unusual situation.

Dolphins are also beings that are on our list of stoned animals.

Everyone knows that dolphins are one of the most intelligent species living in the ocean. And this has already been proven through several studies and research carried out by marine life scholars.

But all this intelligence doesn't stop these animals from taking a very curious action: getting high on purpose with the substances that are within their reach.

Now you must be wondering: how can a dolphin that lives in the sea have access to any type of drug? And the answer lies precisely in the marine fauna.

Dolphins are known to use toxins found in a species of fish called pufferfish.

For those who don't know, pufferfish are fish known for their powerful toxins that can kill their predators, serving as a great weapon to get rid of any attacks.

The venom of this fish is so strong that, in order for it to be consumed by humans, the fish must undergo an extensive and meticulous preparation process carried out by professionals specialized in this category of fish.

And despite being a device to protect the fish from attacks, it did not serve to protect the fish from the dolphins.

They are known for catching pufferfish and using these toxins to enter a trance state. And as if their individual use of the fish wasn't enough, it has been found that dolphins share pufferfish with each other. Pretty interesting, right?

And another point that draws our attention to this behavior is that they know exactly how much they should use. This is because, as we have already mentioned, when consumed in large quantities, the toxin present in the fish can be fatal.

The opium-stoned kangaroos

The third and final species on our list of stoned animals is the kangaroos that live in Australia. The species is on this list because of the habit that some kangaroos have of eating poppies, a plant that is widely used throughout the world to produce substances such as morphine and other painkillers.

Furthermore, it is from this fruit that opium is extracted, a substance that can be used as a drug.

The consumption of these poppies became so intense that kangaroos became a threat to the poppy plantations in the country.

After consumption, the animals were seen walking in circles, completely disoriented and stoned.

Conclusion

Throughout the text, we were able to see that the habit of using hallucinogenic substances is far from being exclusive to human beings, right?

And although there are several situations where animals get high, it is very strange to think that this type of behavior is also present in animal life. And the best part: in some cases, the use of substances is intentional, proving to be something common among species.
