Have you ever stopped to think about what might have happened to the Susi doll, the toy that was all the rage between the 70s and 90s, but that has been losing ground and is no longer in circulation today? What happened to the doll? Find out everything here.

With the buzz that the new Barbie movie has caused, many eyes have turned to the toys that were part of many people's childhoods, right?

The Barbie doll has always been a landmark in culture and has always been present in children's lives, passing from generation to generation, but with the arrival of technology, we can say that toys are no longer used as much by children as they were in the past.

With the release of the Barbie live action film, we saw that these brands are a success that, even though they may be more faded at times, still have the strength to go much further than we imagined.

However, with the release of the film, there were several toys that we stopped to think about and realized that they are no longer in circulation in stores and this can be a common thing, since there are times when something works very well and then stops working.

There are toys that are re-released after a few years and are given more breath to continue for a few years, as was the case with the Monster High dolls, which were a huge success, but after a while they were left in stores, but in 2020 they were re-released with new dolls that were present in the new films and series of the little monsters.

And this was no different with the Susi doll, which for a long time was the direct competitor of the Barbie doll and which marked several generations, but which today seems to no longer be present in stores or anywhere else.

The memory of the doll was unlocked by many who began to think of it with a tone of nostalgia and that question arises: what happened to the Susi doll? Was it discontinued? When was the last time it was on store shelves?

That's what today's text will talk about. Let's learn a little more about the history of this doll that is loved by so many people in Brazil and around the world and also find out what happened to Barbie's competitor.

Maybe you are one of the people who have heard of Susi, or maybe you even played with the doll when you were a child, but you don't know much about her, so we are going to tell you everything.

Brazilian Doll

For those who don't know, despite having been a worldwide phenomenon and having been Barbie's biggest competitor not only in Brazil, but in the United States as well, the Susi doll is a Brazilian invention.

It was launched by the company Estrela, which is famous for producing various toys and it launched Susi in 1966 and the Susi fashion doll era was consecrated, which quickly became a fever all over the world.

Different name

Despite being a registered trademark in Brazil, in the United States, the doll did not have the name Susi. She was distributed by the Toy Company there, but her name was changed to Tammy, as it was a more common name for them than Susi, which they claimed was too Brazilian a name for the doll, but she continued with the same model, just with different names.

Beto

Just as Barbie has the famous Ken to be her boyfriend and adventure companion, Susi also had her boyfriend launched and his name was Beto and their idea was for Susi to have an entire family with a Brazilian look, to pay homage to Brazil.

Re-releases

The doll also underwent several re-releases, as they tried to keep up with the fashion of the moment, so the doll received some re-releases with different models over the years.

Now that we know some interesting facts about Barbie's best friend, if we can call her that, you must have noticed that she hasn't been on store shelves for a while, right?

And yes, it is no longer in stores, but the story is longer than it seems and Susi's fate has had several setbacks until we reached the present day.

The doll was launched in 1966 and kept bringing joy to children for almost 20 years until Estrela stopped producing it in 1985, but many people missed it and asked for the doll to return to store shelves.

In 1997, the doll was re-produced in a relaunch, and 20 million Susi units were made available for sale. Needless to say, they were all sold, as many people were waiting for the doll's return.

A decade passed and Estela realized that Susi was still a strong name in the toy world and decided to relaunch the doll again, but this time she launched her with a more athletic body, with long and defined legs, bigger hips and a thinner waist, in that famous stereotype that we all know well.

The Susi doll today

In 2020, Estrela decided to relaunch the doll once again and it is still being manufactured today, but it is no longer on store shelves, as it is only sold online.

On the star's website you can purchase the doll in six different models: Susi from Stranger Things with an outfit from Eleven in the second season of the series, Classic Susi: Disco Era, Classic Susi: On the Dance Floor, Classic Susi: Morning in the Park (which comes with the puppy), Classic Susi: On the Rocking Floor and Susi Stranger Things: Max, inspired by Eleven's colleague.

The dolls cost between R$99.99 and R$199.99.

Another interesting fact is that with the release of the Barbie movie, Susi has become very popular again, and is even number one in searches on the Estrela website. Will we have the doll on store shelves soon? Let's hope so.
