The Japan Festival is an event held by volunteers from KENREN, the Federation of Associations of Japanese Provinces in Brazil.

Considered one of the largest events celebrating Japanese culture in the world, the Japan Festival attracts thousands of visitors every year.

And what began as an event where the vast majority of participants were of Japanese origin has changed over time. And today, thanks to the popularization of culture and the way we have adopted certain customs in our lives, the event now brings together people from all over the country and of all ethnicities.

In other words: in addition to becoming a tradition to celebrate culture, the event has also become a great option for those who want to learn even more about Japanese culture.

Where and when does the Japan Festival take place?

The Japan Festival takes place at the São Paulo Expo Exhibition & Convention Center, in the city of São Paulo.

And as Japanese culture itself is quite focused on tradition, the event has been held in the same location since the 2005 edition.

And now some sad news for those who didn't know about the Japan Festival and were excited to participate in the event.

The 23rd edition of this year's São Paulo Japan Festival has already taken place. The event was held over three days, between July 15th and 17th.

But don't be discouraged. The 2023 edition is already confirmed and, after getting to know all the information about the event that we have gathered here, it will be much easier to plan and enjoy the 24th edition of the Japan Festival.

What are the main attractions at the Japan Festival?

Gastronomy Square

I don't even need to say that one of the main attractions for event participants is the cuisine, right?

The space’s success is so great that there is no doubt that it is one of the main attractions.

And contrary to what many people may think, the Gastronomy Square at the Japan Festival is not limited to sushi, yakisoba and other popular dishes. Quite the opposite!

The space has special stands representing all 47 provinces that make up the country. 

In other words: at the festival, you can enjoy and learn a little more about the typical cuisine of each region, helping to further promote one of the most famous cuisines in the world!

Culture

As we have already mentioned here, the main purpose of the Japan Festival is to celebrate the importance and plurality of Japanese culture.

And there’s nothing better than doing this through the country’s culture, which is something so unique and individual.

To this end, events such as workshops and cultural demonstrations typical of the country are held and are open to the general public.

Another attraction that is very popular during the event is the Akiba Cosplay Summit, a meeting with the best cosplayers in the country!

For those who don’t know, cosplay is one of the best-known aspects of Eastern culture. This practice consists of dressing up as – and playing – a specific character from Japanese culture.

In this case, these cosplays can be from anime, games, manga, and so on.

And here in Brazil, this practice has been successful for some years among people of all ages.

Of course, an event that celebrates Japanese culture and its influence in Brazil had to have a part aimed exclusively at fans of this practice.

And at the Japan Festival, the participants are not joking around, huh! There, cosplay is treated as a true passion, and participants end up investing a lot of money to look more and more like their favorite characters.

How much is the ticket for the event?

One concern for those who are not yet familiar with the festival is the price of tickets. As for that, you can rest assured!

Tickets are very affordable, considering it is a festival.

In this year's edition, prices ranged from R$ 20 to R$ 25 (full price) and R$ 10 and R$ 12 (half price) per day.

In addition, it is also possible to opt for ticket combos for those who go with the whole family!
