The venue – which opened in 2021 – is not actually located in Cannes, but rather near an island called Sainte-Marguerite. 

In this museum, the highlight is six pieces that are three-dimensional portraits.

The works, which are inspired by the faces of local residents, are displayed in a location where the waters are shallow and crystal clear.

This makes the exhibition easily accessible for visitors and tourists who have snorkeling equipment – a free diving sport.

Baia Underwater Park – Baia, Italy

Another popular underwater museum is the Baia Underwater Park. Located north of Naples, the park is one of the most fascinating on this list.

The archaeological site houses the ruins of a place that, long ago, was something equivalent to a seaside resort frequented by wealthy Romans of the time.

Despite being frequented by people who had better financial conditions, this did not prevent the city from being abandoned in the mid-8th century and, after a certain period, it was submerged.

But, despite having happened a long time ago, it is still possible to visit and get a brief idea of how this public lived.

To visit the site, you can purchase tours that are done on boats with a special bottom made of glass. A tour that is well worth it.

Museum of Underwater Art – Townsville, Australia

The first representative of the southern hemisphere is the Museum of Underwater Art. Also known as the Museum of Underwater Art – or Submarine Art Museum – the museum was the first of its kind created in this hemisphere. 

Located in Australia's Great Barrier Reef, the underwater installation was created by Jason DeCaires Taylor, a British sculptor.

In addition to fulfilling its commitment to help raise awareness about the environment, the first structure of this museum goes further: named The Coral Greenhouse.

The construction consists of a large cement structure with a neutral pH and stainless steel that is resistant to corrosion.

The installation stands out because, in addition to serving as an underwater museum, the structure will also serve as a home for marine life, being occupied in the future by the biodiversity present there.

Museum of Underwater Art (UMA) – Florida, United States

The only North American representative on the list we have prepared today, the Museum of Underwater Art – or UMA, for those in the know – is located in Florida, between the United States and Mexico.

Opened in 2018, the museum houses works by artists from all over the world.

The attraction, which is located at a depth of almost 18 meters, deserves special mention for housing only pieces that do not contain any type of material that pollutes the water.

Bonito Underwater Museum – Bonito (MS), Brazil

Last but not least, we leave the representative of Brazil. The attraction is located in Bonito (MS) and has become a very popular tourist spot.

In addition to being the only museum present in national territory, the Bonito Underwater Museum stands out for being the first and only – to date – submerged museum in a freshwater environment.

The statues on display are made by local artists and focus on sustainability and environmental preservation.
