On Tuesday, President Bolsonaro claimed that COVID-19 is being fought, and he is trying to keep the population calm and without panic. According to him, the New CoronaVirus will be defeated and we will be proud of that.
Amidst the social, financial and political chaos, Bolsonaro states that isolation measures such as transport bans and the closure of businesses and companies should be avoided. “Our lives must go on. Jobs must be maintained. Families’ livelihoods must be preserved. We must return to normality,” says Bolsonaro.
The president says there is no reason to close schools, since the risk group is over 60 years old. Furthermore, he states that 90% of people will not be at risk of developing the New CoronaVirus disease, and if infected, the important thing is to avoid infecting others.
The Ministry of Health, coordinated by Henrique Mandetta, confirms that effective treatment will be made available to patients of the unified health system, SUS.
In fact, the president is waiting for positive responses regarding the ability to discover a cure for the disease, as positive results have already been confirmed for the use of chloroquine in the treatment of COVID.
Bolsonaro ended his speech by thanking all healthcare professionals and paid a brief tribute:
“I would like to take this opportunity to pay tribute to all healthcare professionals, doctors, nurses, technicians and collaborators, who are on the front line receiving patients in hospitals, treating us and comforting us.”
The allegations have had a negative impact on the government and society. Even the population, which is at the mercy of taking financial risks, continues to be coerced by the virus and its health. In other infected countries, the number of cases and deaths is only increasing.
There are more than 19,000 deaths worldwide, with Spain now overtaking China, says WHO. See the updated data in the list of the 10 countries with the most deaths from the New CoronaVirus (Covid-19): (att. 31/03)
