As the episodes progress, we realize that Hawkings hides many dark secrets and that there is much more behind this story than we might expect.

We also meet several secondary characters who have their own arcs and who fill the screen, like Sheriff Hopper who becomes attached to Eleven because she reminds him of the daughter he lost.
