How about staying up to date with all the latest news in space and what NASA has discovered recently?
Anyone who follows Trechos da Vida knows that every now and then we talk about outer space and the discoveries made by the entities responsible.
After all, if there is one subject that generates a lot of curiosity and fascination among all of us, that subject is space and how the universe itself works.
And since it's been a while since we've covered this topic here on the site, we decided to create this more than special content!
In it, we bring together the main topics and we will talk about what NASA has discovered recently and we will explore these discoveries further.
So get your spacesuit ready because today we’re traveling to outer space!
What has NASA recently discovered about space?
Now that you, who still didn't know exactly what NASA was – and what the institution represents – now know a little more about it, it's time to talk about what NASA has discovered recently.
As you can imagine, NASA's laboratories and researchers are in full swing.
And the proof of this is that from time to time new developments are announced regarding the universe and everything that involves space.
With that in mind, we have gathered 3 of the latest news stories involving space and what NASA has recently discovered on this topic.
What NASA has recently discovered | NASA releases unprecedented sound from a black hole
This was, without a doubt, the main news of the last few days!
And this discovery released by NASA – and which caught so much attention around the world – could not be left out of this list.
Have you ever imagined being able to hear the sound emitted by an active black hole? Thanks to studies and what NASA has recently discovered, this is possible!
On May 5th, NASA released what sounds a black hole would emit.
Located in a cluster of galaxies called Perseus, this black hole is located at a distance of about 250 million light years and, according to NASA itself, this discovery is different from all that have been made so far.
Check out the video about what NASA recently discovered about the sound of this black hole:
To be able to reproduce the sound emitted by the black hole, the process needed to be studied extensively.
In order to “translate” the captured information and thus convert it into sound waves that could be perceived by our ears, it was necessary to invest in specific computer programs.
Furthermore, another area used in this great discovery was the programming language.
At this point you must be remembering your Physics classes at school, where we learned that, as space is a huge vacuum, sound cannot propagate in an environment like that, right?
So how was it possible to hear the sound of a black hole?
It turns out that, in a cluster of galaxies – as is the case with Perseus – a particularity makes this possible: the large amounts of gases it contains.
It is through this characteristic that the agency's instruments can capture sound waves and, after several processes, transform them into the sounds we can hear.
NASA discovery suggests there are other planets similar to Earth
As everyone knows, our solar system has 9 planets, if we count Pluto.
But, despite existing within the same solar system as ours, the positions and structures of these planets make them extremely hostile to human life.
In other words: besides Mars – which is the closest to what we have here on Earth, even with some reservations – no other planet could be inhabited by us.
But what NASA recently discovered could change the way we see other planets.
NASA has announced the discovery of the existence of 10 planets that are quite similar to our Earth.
Despite the similarities, these planets are not located within our solar system.
In this case, they are part of a catalog of “exoplanets”, planets that orbit in systems other than the Solar one.
In addition to these 10 announced as very similar to our planet, NASA also mentioned another 219 new “potential planets”.
Among the similarities between our planet and these 10 newly discovered ones, some are quite striking.
The size of their surfaces, the way they orbit around their stars – which would be like the Sun for these planets – and even the presence of water.
Although the discovery is very interesting, it still requires a lot of study so that we can better understand how these planets work.
But with a discovery like this, it is impossible not to think about the possibilities it offers for the future of humanity.
Could it be possible that, in the not-so-distant future, humans will migrate to these new planets?
Would it be possible for humans to colonize this new location and succeed in colonizing a new planet? Only time will tell.
There are more than 5,000 worlds beyond our solar system, says NASA
And speaking of exoplanets, another recent NASA discovery also involves planets outside our solar system.
Although it’s not such a new discovery – as it was announced at the end of March – we couldn’t leave such shocking news out of our list!
According to what was announced by NASA, the organization has already counted more than 5 thousand exoplanets that were discovered with the help of the company's space telescopes.
This information is the result of a 30-year study journey.
According to NASA, all this research has enabled humanity's knowledge about our universe to be increasingly expanded.
This is because, some time ago, studies were limited to only the planets that orbit ours here in the solar system.
With a huge variety – ranging from small rocky planets to even gas giants – studies of these exoplanets could, in the future, lead humanity to the discovery of signs of life outside our planet.
And that is, without a doubt, something extremely fascinating!
