In addition to content – films, series, animations and documentaries – that have already been and are coming to be part of the catalogs, these platforms are investing more and more in new content!
And in recent days, there has been a lot of talk about a launch from Netflix, the largest streaming platform in the world.
We're talking about the Resident Evil series.

And since everyone is talking about this super launch on the platform, we decided to create special content about the series!
Throughout this material, you will learn about the history of Resident Evil – both the series and the film and game franchise that became famous in the late 90s and continues to be successful to this day!
What is the story of Resident Evil?
You don't have to be a big fan of games and movies to have heard of Resident Evil. After all, this franchise has been a success all over the world for a few years now.
Resident Evil is a media franchise – which started on one platform and ended up expanding to others – that emerged in Japan in 1996.
What started as a video game has evolved into movies, animations, comic books, action figures and several other products.
Although these productions have certain differences between them, they all have one element in common: the city of Raccoon City and the effects caused by a series of biological and viral incidents that get out of control and result in an uncontrollable infestation.
On all platforms, the person largely responsible for these events is the Umbrella Corporation, a fictional pharmaceutical company that carries out very shady experiments in the city.
In addition to the success of the franchise when it comes to video games – more than 30 games and versions about the universe have already been released – the franchise soon arrived on the big screen and won over the public.
Proof of this is that this franchise – which began in 2002 – gained six other films, ending in 2016.
But even with all this success, many fans criticize the franchise, using the argument that the story is very different from the plot – so much so that Alice, the character who is the protagonist in the films, doesn't even exist in the games – that we follow throughout the games.
Even so, this did not stop the films from becoming box office hits and, after their closure, new adaptations began to emerge.
This is the case of Resident Evil: The Series, which we will talk about in the next topic.
What is the story of Resident Evil: The Series?
Now that you know the story of the franchise, it's time to enter the universe created by Netflix for this new series.
The series' story takes place in two different timelines, exploring two distinct periods.
In the first, we follow Jade and Billie Wesker, two 14-year-old sisters who are moving to New Raccoon City.
But as much as this change may seem normal and routine, the girls soon realized that their father was acting strangely, as if he was hiding some dark secret.
What the two young women don't imagine is that this secret has the potential to destroy the world.
The second timeline that the series follows is completely different.
In it, we follow Earth ten years after the first timeline. In it, the planet is devastated, with only about 15 million human beings.
And the other part of the population is made up of more than 6 billion true monsters. They are people and animals that have been infected by the T-virus and have become creatures that live in search of human flesh.
In this timeline, we continue to follow Jade, who is now 30 years old and is facing the dangers of this new world.
But the fight for survival is far from Jade's only concern. While she has to deal with the dangers of living in a post-apocalyptic world, Jade is still haunted by the secrets of her past and the events that happened to her sister and father.

What is the relationship between Resident Evil: The Series and Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City?
Still in the Resident Evil universe, you may have noticed a buzz around a feature film about the franchise that hit theaters in 2021.
Despite also having Raccoon City as its setting, this production – which received the title Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City – has no connection whatsoever with the series that recently arrived on Netflix.
Furthermore, unlike the films that were part of the previous franchise – which were not based so much on the video games – this new adaptation became known for being very faithful to the entire story of the original game.
The film follows Claire Redfield as she returns to Raccoon City, the city where she grew up with her brother. But what Claire didn't expect was that the city was on the brink of a zombie apocalypse caused by The Umbrella Corporation, a pharmaceutical company headquartered in the city.
Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City is available on HBO Max.
Conclusion
As confusing as it may seem – since there are game franchises, movies, animations and now even a series about it – the Resident Evil franchise is not difficult to understand or watch. Quite the opposite.
The productions became known for being great entertainment options for those looking for an action film!
And if you like Resident Evil: The Series and haven't watched the other films in the franchise yet, it's worth giving the feature films a chance.
